Lorem ipsum generator

Generate paragraphs, sentences, words, or list items of placeholder Latin text. Choose how much, whether to begin with the classic “Lorem ipsum” opener, and copy with one click.

About the Lorem ipsum

The lorem ipsum generator produces placeholder text in the unit you need: paragraphs, sentences, individual words, or bulleted list items. You set how many, choose whether to begin with the familiar "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" opening, and reshuffle for a different arrangement whenever you like.

Placeholder text lets you fill a layout, mockup or component with realistic-looking copy before the real words exist, so you can judge spacing, line length and overflow without being distracted by meaning. Because the dummy Latin reads as text but says nothing, designers and developers have used it for decades to test typography and templates, and this version gives you control over the quantity and the structure.

How to use it

  1. Pick a unit from the dropdown: Paragraphs, Sentences, Words or List items.
  2. Set the Count between 1 and 200 to choose how much text to generate.
  3. Toggle "Start with Lorem ipsum" on to begin with the classic opening line, or off for a varied start.
  4. Press Shuffle to regenerate with a different seed when you want a fresh arrangement.
  5. Click Copy to put the generated text on your clipboard, ready to paste into your design or template.

Examples

Filling three body paragraphs

Choose Paragraphs, set Count to 3 and keep the classic opener on. You get three blank-line-separated paragraphs, the first beginning "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod...", each paragraph holding several sentences so you can test how a real article block flows.

Generating bulleted list items

Switch the unit to List items and set Count to 5. The output is five short lines, each prefixed with "- ", so you can drop a believable bulleted list straight into a mockup of a feature list or menu without writing copy.

A fixed word count for a label

Pick Words and set Count to 8 to get exactly eight Latin words for a tight space like a card title or button row. With the opener off, the words vary; with it on, the phrase starts from the familiar 'Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet' lead-in.

Frequently asked questions

What do the four units actually produce?
Words gives a flat run of single words. Sentences gives capitalised sentences ending in full stops. Paragraphs groups several sentences each and separates them with blank lines. List items gives short sentences each prefixed with a dash, ready to paste as bullets.
Why does the text start with 'Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet'?
That phrase is the traditional opening of the standard placeholder passage, so designers recognise it at a glance as dummy text. Turning the toggle off lets the generator start from a varied point when you do not want the cliché opener.
Is the generated text the same every time?
For a given seed it is reproducible, which keeps your mockup stable between reloads. Pressing Shuffle advances the seed to produce a different arrangement, so you can keep one layout fixed or explore alternatives on demand.
Does lorem ipsum mean anything?
Not as readable Latin. It is scrambled, abbreviated text derived loosely from a classical Latin passage, deliberately near-meaningless so readers focus on the visual layout rather than the words. Do not ship it as real copy.
How much can I generate at once?
The count is capped between 1 and 200 units, so you can produce anything from a single word up to two hundred paragraphs, sentences, words or list items in one go, depending on the unit you selected.

Good to know

Placeholder text is a design instrument, not content. Its job is to approximate the rhythm and density of real prose so you can see whether a heading wraps, a card overflows or a column feels balanced. Lorem ipsum works for this precisely because it is meaningless: the eye reads it as text and stops parsing, which keeps attention on the layout instead of the message. Matching the language and average word length of your eventual copy gives the most honest preview.

There are times not to use it. Filler should never reach production, because shipped lorem ipsum looks unfinished and can confuse users or reviewers, and it is poor for accessibility and SEO testing since screen readers and search engines see gibberish. When you are checking real reading flow, content fit for translated strings, or anything users will actually read, swap in representative real copy. Generate placeholder text early to scaffold a design, then replace every word of it before launch.
