Cite a blog post in MLA 9

Blog posts sit between websites and articles in MLA 9. They have a clear author and date, but the publisher slot is the blog name rather than a magazine. MLA 9 (2021) treats them as part of a larger work, so the blog name is italicized and the post title is in quotes.

MLA 9 rules for a blog post

  • Author is the post byline, not the blog's editor or owner.
  • Post title goes in quotes; the blog name is italicized as the container.
  • Use the publication date shown on the post, including day and month.
  • Include the full URL to the post, not the blog's homepage.
  • If the post was later updated, note the original date and the update date.
  • Blog name comes after the post title, italicized; include the access date.
